I owned a creative ad agency for 25 years, Before that I worked on movie sets doing set production and set dressing, this led me to doing interior design on the side ever since. While doing more design and doing cosmetic makeovers on homes.
I decided to get my license as it excites me to be able to still be creative and also feel the rush of negotiating a good deal. My wife and business partner Nikki worked for the corporate headquarters for The Cheesecake Factory and she was a new restaurant coordinator so she traveled all over the country opening up restaurants. She managed large teams and coordinated many different facets of the restaurant industry. These are all important skills to master that now make all the moving parts of a deal go smoothly and efficiently. Both our previous professions groomed us to be a very dynamic rest estate team that does way more than just buying and selling homes for clients.
I feel like the biggest challange is dealing with some agents that do do business the right way. It’s a profession that you need somewhat honesty from the other side and unfortunately there’s many agents that don’t play by the rules. Another challange is many laws and rules in real estate change and revolve. As a good agent you have to stay up with all changes to make sure you are doing everything you can do do everything lawfully and correctly. There’s a ton of liability on agents if something was done erroneously.
I have worked at 3 brokerages.

My first one was at a Mom & Pop small brokerage, named Dwell. I knew the owner and felt comfortable working within a smaller work setting. On the negative side potential clients have never heard of the firm and that would put doubt in their minds that we may not be good enough if we don’t work at a brokerage they have heard of. Next I went to Compass, I went there for their high end, cutting edge reputation. The cons with this company is they give you many great incentives when you come over to them, but unfortunately they start taking them away. They also don’t have great commision splits. Lastly their employee equity share investment was setup to take money from agents with no possible way to lose a good portion or all of your investment. Now currently at Keller Williams, largest brokerage in the country and that is a household name so people feel comfortable knowing you work there. The only con I can think of is their technology and back end systems are not designed very well. I was used to the great technology at Compass and that high standard has made KW system to lack robust features.
Platinum Award 2022 Sold over 43 million dollars in sales in 2021 Many friendships have been made meeting new friends/clients As also a fine art painter my piece of Muhammad Ali was used to open the Ali Center in Louisville Kentucky in 2005
First sale of my career I worked my first open house myself and sold the house to a woman that walked in by herself on the very first day. I was able to obtain her first home for her and through some hurdles she had, we kept the deal together. I also represented the seller who is a successful actress and she called me the expert of real estate and she was blown away with how I prepared her house by painting and decluttering it all the way to the selling process and closing the deal at the end. Both clients on both sides both made me handcrafted gifts and lovely thank you cards. From that moment ok I knew this was the right profession for me.
Anyone these days are going to Google someone they might hire. Reviews is probably the most important detail that someone is going to read about your reputation though reviews.
We ask our clients to give us a review online. We know it will be a great review as we have never had a dissatisfied client.
It’s simple we have all the talent to design the home after they buy it and make it very special. On the other side when representing sellers, we make it magnificent with all our hard work on getting the house ready to sell. It’s very rare that real estate agents have other skill sets and connections to do a full home makeover. But being creative doesn’t mean we are good at negotiating on behalf of our clients. We love to negotiate hard, however keeping deals intact.
