It’s been more than a decade since Dustin took on his first volunteer position at a museum. What started as a high school internship at the Smoky Hill Museum lasted for just over five years. His time at Smoky Hill helped fuel his passion for history and volunteer work, which led to him taking on a personal project researching and working to preserve the Sanborn Cemetery Project in New Cambria, KS. Dustin continued his work in historic preservation at the Old Cowtown Museum, serving as both the Mercantile Clerk and Funeral Director.

He also spearheaded a project about the abandoned town of Chico, KS, and co-wrote a book detailing the history of Saline County. His most recent efforts include publishing “Defunct Amusement Parks of Alabama: Space City USA,” an expose on an amusement park that never was. From that first internship through to today, the historian helmed Shannon Historical Associates and emphasized his focus on preserving abandoned cemeteries and the conservation of forgotten burial grounds.

Amidst all this, a budding interest in real estate drove Dustin to pursue a license in Alabama. In August 2020, he emerged as a buyer agent for eXp Realty and have since provided salesperson services through several brokers, including Revolved Realty and Realty Hub. While he has continued real estate services in Alabama, he has since expanded his reach to the Destin area of Florida. His volunteer work in historical preservation and his real estate sales often cross paths as the former has given him insight into the inner workings of historic towns.

Dustin has faced and overcome many challenges, ensuring every step he took was a step forward. His career is marked with ample highs that continue to accumulate regardless of where he is and the work he’s performing.
