We are organized to provide the best service to clients that are looking for an all-inclusive Design-Build Project. That type of work varies from basement finishes and structural remodels to large-scale development and new construction. We cut our teeth on our own projects and gained an immense amount of knowledge regarding different types of financing, value engineering and overall construction process.
The needs we fulfill range from financing and zoning hurdles to finish selection and cost control. We believe the relationship is paramount. Digging into our clients' values and identifying key motivators, whether they are related to investment strategy and cost or luxury and experience, will yield the best alignment in how we select materials and drive both the design and construction process.
I grew up in a construction family which resulted in me working on job sites from a young age. Mike McCarty, my business partner, has a background in acquiring and managing rental properties. We found a great overlap in our skill sets through contributing to the housing market in Denver. Mike and I have a shared passion for real estate and investment. Sustainable Design Build was born out of combining our differing perspectives on the market and using both our skill sets to create a process that serves our clients well. Starting out was a very painful process and through our obstacles, we gained experience and a knowledge base that is extremely versatile. This has served us well in dealing with unforeseen challenges like the COVID Pandemic and allowed us flexibility in solving problems creatively. This translates directly to our business approach, handling whatever we encounter with resolve and determination.
There were many challenges in creating the company we have today. Denver has been booming for quite some time. This results in high prices for properties and materials. Another challenge created by the booming market is a shortage of skilled labor. We have worked diligently to create mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers and subcontractors alike. The greatest challenge is always what you don't know. Developing a gritty mindset and strong will can assure a lasting outcome despite a myriad of issues that could persuade you to quit. This determination and will has been a vital component in our success. Now that we have weathered so much we can apply those same values and focus on our clients' goals.

Selling our first round of townhomes was a huge moment for our company. There was an immense amount of risk and accomplishing the construction and getting units to market was a big accomplishment. Contributing to the housing market in Denver where inventory is in short supply was very significant to our company.
Most firms in the Design/ Build space are architecture firms that create designs and sub out the construction process. Construction is where the vast majority of a client's finances are focused. Sustainable Design Build has found a lot of value in working with great architects who excel at what they do while keeping our internal focus on the construction and costs of the overall project. Working through design features and capturing the clients' vision for a project is very important. We also want to build projects in a manner that directs as much of the budget as possible to the tangible finishes that a client will enjoy long after the project is completed.
